What Affects Demolition Cost?

Nine variables that determine what a demolition project actually costs — and which ones you can influence.

Structure and size

Built-up area sets the baseline, but structure type adjusts it heavily. RCC framed buildings cost more per square foot to demolish than load bearing masonry because of breaking effort and debris weight.

Height and floors

Each additional floor adds sequencing complexity and time, and may change which machine is suitable for the job.

Access and location

Street width, gate size, turning radius and permitted vehicle movement timings all affect how efficiently machinery and trucks can work.

Debris volume and disposal distance

Debris cost scales with trip count and haul distance. Concrete is heavy, so RCC structures produce disproportionately more disposal cost.

Scope of clearing

Whether foundations are removed, whether the plot is levelled, and how clean the handover should be all change the final figure.

Salvage recovery

Material with resale value can offset project cost. This should be quantified and agreed in the quotation rather than left open.
